“Why do blessings wear disguises? If I were a blessing, I’d run around naked” — Sophia Petrillo

Welcome to EN100! I know you are all excited, and perhaps a little nervous. This semester will challenge you, but it will also be a ton of fun–I promise. You will learn new rhetorical strategies, ways of thinking, and different approaches to writing, revising, and collaboration. Although this may not seem like a blessing in disguise, over the course of your collegiate career you will find that EN100 created a strong foundation for the many different classes that you will take and the different genres in which you will be required to write.

I cannot wait to learn from you, read your work, and experience the wealth of information that you have to give. That is the purpose of this blog. This is where school meets cool and writing is about what fascinates you. You will not always have the opportunity to write about what interests you in an academic setting, but here, on this blog, you can write about music, a specific song, a topic that you learned about in your biology class that is new to you, something to do with your prospective field, etc. You can write a review of a movie you watched on Tuesday ($5 movie day), or perhaps you just joined a campus organization that you want to discuss. Your options are infinite and as long as you bring your “A game”…

I am giving you free reign with several conditions:

  1. Your name needs to be typed at the bottom left of your post (like a letter)
  2. You must have at least 400 words.
  3. You must have a picture or a graphic (gif’s and memes count)
  4. Your topic must be WELL THOUGHT OUT. If you need to do research, do it. If you are reviewing a movie or book, give specific details as you discuss to prove your point.
  5. Your topic must be sent for approval in an email by the Monday before your post is due (Posts are due Friday before class). The more information you give me in your topic —-approval request, the more I can help you.

Above all else, I am looking for creativity and REAL interest. Choose something that fascinates you and roll with it. Have fun with this and I promise we will have a great semester!
