Andrew Luck’s Early Retirement

Andrew Luck was the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. He played for the Colts for a total of seven seasons and was drafted back in 2012 as the number one pick for the Colts. When we arrived in Indy he had a very rough time throughout all seven years with the Colts. He was brutally abused while playing the game and it eventually took a toll on Andrew Luck. The offensive line could not protect Luck at all and it showed throughout the years, and you can see it in the games if you watch them play. Once he got injured it just seemed like year after year it was injury and then rehab for his injuries, but it became a constant issue with him. It took the love of the game away from him because at the end you want to have a healthy career and be able to be there for your kids and family when you get older. Throughout his career he suffered multiple injuries such as a lacerated kidney, injured ribs, at least one concussion, torn cartilage in his throwing shoulder and, most recently, a calf and ankle injury. When he gave his announcement on retiring he mentioned that the game wore him down physically, but even mentally because of what he was going through year after year.

When he was healthy or played, he had a huge impact on the teams performance and ability to win. Last year he won the Comeback Player of The Year Award in the NFL. After last year it seemed like he was on track to become a fantastic quarterback and make an impact in the league. The Colts had seven years or just a little less to find him protection, but they didn’t fix that because how Jim Irsay the owner didn’t really see it that way. Peyton Manning played for the Colts for 13 seasons, and he got the same treatment that Luck did and it showed, because he suffered injuries as well like having to get neck surgery due to getting hit and abused to much. It just shows how bad the Colts organization is and how well they treat their franchise players. If Andrew Luck didn’t retire this year and continued to remain healthy, then they might have had a chance on going to the Super Bowl because they had the potential to do so with his ability as the quarterback.
