Many of us love to participate in sports whether there is fierce competition or not. But it is often overlooked how important is really is too stretch. I only feel compelled to say this because for a long time I pulled many muscles in my legs while running track and never fully understood how to prevent that.
For all the (Chads and Brads) out there saying “Fuck this, stretching is for wimps” I suggest you listen up so you don’t end up looking like a overgrown muscle master. The reason it is so important to stretch before engaging in physical activity is that when you stretch is engages all the fibers in that muscle. This means that more of that muscle is working and creating stronger fibers across more of the muscle. This I feel needs a main focus from people who like to max at the gym. I have nothing from with you going and improving daily and seeing it physically, just be safe and make sure the targeted area is well worked and stretched out to avoid an serious pains.

That brings me to the next topic being injury. Stretching is such a good way to reduce the risk of injury for anybody. I am a clumsy person I fall and I trip all the time. Knowing that I make sure to focus when I stretch before runs and and soccer to really get areas of tension or stress. This reduces the risk of injury along with engages my muscles.
When you stretch is releases all the Lactic acid built up between the fibers of your muscles. That is why it is important to stretch before and after you workout. Stretching before you workout opens the muscle up to its maximum capacity and allows muscle fibers to grow more due to the activity. During the said activity your muscles working extremely hard to meet the demands to set for yourself and produce a lot of lactic acid which is then stored between those muscle fibers. This is what causes that “burning” sensation quite often found after a particularly difficult activity. This is why stretching after that event is so important, its to reduce that burning sensation and release all that lactic acid built up within your muscles allowing more comfort.
Fan Fact: Lactic acid is found in every day products such as Yogurt, Sourdough bread and some beers and wines due to fermentation.
